⚙️ What is NHSE's Manage Patient Registrations (MPR)?

Written by Vanessa Gouveia

Manage Patient Registrations (MPR) is a portal from NHS England where practice staff review and approve incoming patient registrations. It's separate from Healthtech-1 and your Hub, the two can run side by side, but there are some key differences.

For the full detail on how MPR works, see NHS England's MPR guidance.

How MPR works alongside Healthtech-1

You can run both at the same time. Any registration that meets the criteria for MPR or NHSE auto-registration is handled by those services - everything else comes through Healthtech-1.

A couple of things worth knowing

  1. Rejected patients aren't notified. If you reject a registration in MPR, it asks you for a reason but doesn't tell the patient - you'll need to contact them yourself.

This is different from Healthtech-1 - with us, the patient is notified. So if you're using both, it's worth keeping this difference in mind so no rejected patient is left without a reply.

  2. Your Local Form data still comes through us. The online form you review in MPR is only NHSE's registration form, not the Healthtech-1 Local Form - so that extra info still comes through us and needs actioning separately.

  3. Coding differs. MPR applies some limited SNOMED coding, Healthtech-1 codes the full dataset. For the full breakdown, see What Healthtech-1 codes vs NHSE auto-registration.

How do I pause or stop MPR?

If you'd like to stop using MPR, NHS England ask you to raise a ServiceNow ticket.

Once it's off, those registrations come back through Healthtech-1 as normal.
