When we file a lab report we send the patient a SMS message to tell them the outcome of their test and any further steps they need to take.

Can we turn off normal result notification messages to patients?

Yes!

But there’s some nuance here. We can’t turn off all text messages. This is because some of our protocols deal with results which require an action from the patient, so we have to message them in these circumstances for the protocol to be safe and effective.
If we turn off notification texts for normal results, we'll still send text messages in the following circumstances:

  • Insufficient vitamin D advice to buy over-the-counter supplements

  • Smear test results with the recall date, or if the sample is positive for chlamydia with pharmacy advice

  • Bowel screening (FOB) non-response reminders

  • HbA1c results if in pre-diabetic range (stable or new)
